100 Days of Marvel: Road to Infinity War - Day 7: Marvel One Shot - Agent Carter

While I continue to wait for my Amazon order of "The Incredible Hulk," I want to jump back in time and review one of the Marvel One Shots. This one completes our discussion of Agent Carter.

I have never seen any of the Marvel One Shots prior to this, so I make sure that I watch them where they land in the timeline, as I am already starting to screw up the order of things, and I am still only in Phase One.

In this One Shot, Agent Peggy Carter is in a somewhat season 1 type atmosphere where none of the men take her seriously. It is a bit annoying that most of her stories involve men not treating her properly, and I think season 3 would have been a great space to share a story that did not revolve around the men in her life treating her as if she was less of an agent.

Not much to say about this One Shot, though. Not much here that was not covered in the Agent Carter television series. However, we do get some great insight in Carter's next steps, which is nice because season 3 won't happen. We learn here that Peggy Carter will be helping to run S.H.I.E.L.D., which is a big deal, all things considered. I don't I ever knew this before this re-watch / first viewing of all things Marvel, but the more I know the more I am invested in all of these characters. It is absolutely brilliant what Marvel has done with these characters and how they have brought so much from the pages onto the screen in such a great way.

This short, however, borrowed from the Pixar Handbook. It told a short, stand alone story that works without the television series. You can even watch this without the context of Carter's relationship with Captain America. Granted, it makes more sense the more you know, but if you knew that this was simple a story of one of the shield founders, that would easily be enough.

I really liked how this short reiterated the fact that Peggy Carter is a boss. She completes a mission that recommends 4 or 5 men, and does so almost with ease. It is funny, well-paced, and filmed appropriately. I will say, though, that we don't really learn anything new about Peggy Carter in this short. Another thing that is constant with her character is that due to the role they keep putting her in, Carter has to consistently break the rules to save the day. I really do want to see her work on a team where everyone is respectful and where her abilities are enhanced by a solid support system. Just like how Black Widow is made a stronger character when she has her squad. If the sum of these movies, tv shows and shorts tells us anything about life, it is that "the lone wolf dies alone," to quote Game of Thrones. It is all about these squads out here. #Dabs #SquadGoals. Carter is often the lone wolf, even within a pack (like when she works with Jarvis and Howard. This short was no less just that.

It was cool to see Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan again. I haven't really talked about him much. I really liked his character in Captain America: The First Avenger, as well as the episode of Agent Carter where we see him in season 1. Dum Dum and Howard Stark had a pretty funny moment in the end, and I learned that the French invited Bikinis.

Short post today, but I am hoping to do a deep Heroic Analysis of The Incredible Hulk tomorrow for the blog, since he only has the one movie. The rest of the week should be pretty fun with the additional of Thor, Iron Man 3 and the first Avengers Movies (with some Agents of Shield in the mix as well, not sure of the top).

As always, I appreciate you for reading!
