100 Days of Marvel: Road to Infinity War - Day 21: Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy
Back in 2014 when I first started this blog I really wanted to talk about unconventional heroes, and occasionally I did, and still do. When I first saw Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, I was enamored with this movie. It quickly became my favorite MCU movie at the time, and after re-watching it this evening I would say that it is definitely still top tier for me. Back then, I did a full on Heroic Analysis of Peter Quill as a hero, so I won't rehash what I wrote back then, but I did want to talk about this movie in the context of what we know now with some of the later movies, especially in the context of us being 21% closer to Infinity War.
Guardians of the Galaxy is the first movie where I remember seeing Thanos for any longer than a few seconds. It is certainly the first movie in the MCU where Thanos is mentioned most often so far, and we get closer in scope to him. This is the first movie that I can remember us talking precisely about Infinity Stones, and many of the characters we meet know Thanos directly, or are even related to him. This is comparable to other films such as Captain America, Iron Man or Avengers, where they only think they know what a tesseract is. I guess we do get some mention of these things in Thor, but even so it is not on this scale (It is on a scale, but it clearly does Weight Watchers, the 21 Day Fix, and Insanity).
Even more firsts come with this movie in the form of expanding the tones in the MCU and making it possible for future films to do well. Ant Man is a great example, as well as Guardians 2, and even the humor from subsequent films in series such as Avengers Age of Ultron and Thor 3 are
How are they the Guardians of the Galaxy though, because isn't the Galaxy around Orion's Belt?
Kidding aside, I still really love this film. Check out the Blog I wrote in 2014 and see how wrong I got Peter's Father Figure. Maybe after these 100 days I will revisit that post - the post the essentially inspired this Blog all together. I didn't know what I wanted this be then, and I am still building it. Tonight, after this extra short post, take a step back:
