100 Days of Marvel: Road to Infinity War - Day 26: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

I'm supposed to watch more Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. today, but I pulled some extra shifts at work, so I moved the days around. Today, I rewatched Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and it still holds up as one of the most epic of the MCU.

We get some of the highest stakes in any MCU film in this movie, and by thay I mean with the villain. Most other films have world ending catastrophes - Loki doing something stupid, Hulk's Blood falling into the wrong hands, etc. But in this one, we inch closer to Thanos' level and our heroes face a damn planet. A PLANET ya'll. A sentient planet is certainly a level higher than a man in a rogue Iron Man suit.

The music is so good in this. I really like the music from the first, and I still don't know which has the better. Most folks say 1, and a piece of me says 1, but man the music from 2 is so good. Since I just watched 2, I'll say that because it is so fresh in my head.

The Guardians each have something to do here, though it remains all about Peter when it gets down to brass tacks. Drax has the BEST lines in this movie. "It hurts. My nipples are sensitive." One of his other funny lines, among many, was his line to Peter about finding a pathetic woman like him.

Baby Groot is great! In his first scene his twig dancing is great. They are all fighting and he is just hilariously screwing around. I was, however, concerned that his intelligence was off. He was decently smart in some places, but laughably, and inexcusably, dumb in others. He could understand complete sentences and convey messages back decently, but seemed to not 'get it.' I was confused on just how much he understood, and I feel like a basic grasp on language would at least translate into being able to bring back a fin.

But thinking about all of the humor here makes me wonder: is it funnier than Thor 3? Comments below, which Marvel Cinematic Universe film is the funniest?

The gold people are ridiculous and I am here for it. Having just seen "Black Panther," Wakandan tech is probably as good as theirs (we see Shuri drive the ships and cars remotely), so I wonder if they have vibranium. There has to be more vibranium out there in the universe somewhere, no?

Not really a fan of Mantis's. I feel bad for her, but she is annoying. I do like her rapport with Drax, though their evential shacking seems hurried and odd. Hey, I won't knock if that's what they are into, though I was sure he found her gross. What gives, movie? Are they even compatible as a species?

Nebula is a crap villain. I like her backstory, but she takes no responsibilty. She is a "blamer," but is now in a position to live a better life. She needs to open her eyes to it and live in it, the fact that she has the ability to make her life what she wants it to be. And furthermore, bitch they told you it wasn't ripe. I think their sibling relationship, in some small way, parallels Thor & Loki's - the gifted and the troubled.

Thanks for reading, everyone. This has been Mary Poppins, y'all. And remember, pass the message along that it was Taserface what sealed your fate.
