100 Days of Marvel: Road to Infinity War - Day 27 & 28: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (S2, E6-19)
But this post is about the 14 or 15 episodes of Agents that I muddled through in a blurry fever of headaches and sore coughs.
The majority of this season involved the Obelisk and the mystery surrounding the city and the key. I don't know much about the Kree, but I always love a reason for Lady Sith to show up. Ya'll know she is my bae, right? Okay, maybe there are some before here, but you get the idea. Now that more "gifted" are in the show, and more coming, I think things have the potential continue to escalate, which keeps the show fresh to me.
This season, for me, is much better than season 1. The goals are clearly established from the jump, and the risks are not only tense, but way higher elevated when compared to season 1. In season 1, our characters were, all things considered, safe. S.H.I.E.L.D. was still "intact." Truths were still so unconvered that existed in a real where we could "go back," or "pull-out" if you will. We even see that at the start of this season (and maybe in the episodes I talked about already) where Lance is almost "out." And that is really the last chance many characters had to exit. Once certain events happened in this season, it was too far to go back. Take Skye, for example, she can never go back to not knowing who her parents are. She can never take her powers (or so the show will have us to believe) and she can never live a normal life where everyone is out to get here (yes, everyone, because even Coulson, for all his good intentions, could never truly let her live).
The pacing is too slow. Would have been cleaner in 13 - 18 episodes, but I am not quite sure what I would cut out. I think the scenes with Skye in "China" were too long and drawn out. They cut the pace for Coulson-is-rogue line and made it go by too long. Then, the resolution where Coulson works with Ward and rejoins S.H.I.E.L.D. happened to fast. For the amount of time he spent on the run, it all seems to come back together for the huge team reunion so conveniently. I wont deny, though, that it is was cool to see the squad back together in the end, even though Ward is a piece of trash.
About halfway through my viewing of these episodes, somewhere around episode 11 I guess, Agent Triplett dies in the alien city when Skye and Raini transform like Metapods - they truly give a new meaning to "ashes to ashes." I actually did not mind Agent Triplett's death. They introduce him as an in-between for FitzSimmons, and I have not liked him since. With him out the picture, there is one fewer complication. YES, I said it. And while I think we need more colored representation, I was happy that he bit the big one. I understand his introduction though.
FitsSimmons are giving me serious issues in this season. Just get together, JESUS!!! I like where we are with them, but my body was so destroyed by their emotional roller coaster that I actually got what I am calling a microflu. I just want them to ... be.
Unfortunately, I am still dying slowly from sickness. But I couldn't miss two days! This week is Daredevil and then capped with Ultron. Until tomorrow.
