100 Days of Marvel: Road to Infinity War - Day 12: Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant

Alright. I have come to the first thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that I actually felt has been a waste. This Marvel One-Shot was pretty terrible. I am not sure when it came out in relation to the movies, but at least the others I have seen so far were exciting to watch. This one was, well, it wasn't.

In "Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant," we have Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) engaging in a conversation with Agent Sitwell (Maximiliano Hernandez), who we know is Hydra. They are talking about a mysterious consultant character, who turns out to be Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). The scene cuts from them talking to the post credit scene from (I believe) "The Incredible Hulk." Then, it cuts back to Coulson and Sitwell, Coulson makes a joke, and then the One-Shot ends.

I don't really have much to say about this one. Coulson doesn't do anything badass. Carter doesn't take on a secret hide out of criminals. It was just kind of bland, and I had already seen the scene where Stark speaks with General Ross (William Hurt) in a post credit scene.

Thinking about what happens in this One-Shot, I believe I may have watched it out of order. This seems like it should have come just after the Hulk and just before the Avengers. Ah well. In my quest to watch as much MCU before "Avengers: Infinity War" it was bound that I stumbled across something that is just kind of here.

I don't want to go the whole blog without saying what this short film contributes, so I want to make an attempt at putting it into perspective. This short gives us a scene with Coulson and Sitwell, which will be important later when we learn that Sitwell is Hydra. It is unfortunate, and I hate that this character is a Hydra tool, but it was an amazing reveal when it happens (and I have forgotten where that occurs, but it should be soon). There conversation is neat because we do get Coulson being by the book and suspicious of Sitwell. Sitwell has lower clearance, and I think Coulson picks up on this and doesn't reveal all his cards.

And, it does make me realize that we actually have not seen Hydra in the MCU so far. That being said, we have been seeing them the ENTIRE Time.
